Paint Pail Solar Cooker

Solar oven with .23 meter, 2.5 foot, semicylinder reflector.

Empty paint pail or hardware store 5 gallon bucket.

Cut out a 180 degree panel.  After cutting the panel the two halfs will widen out naturally:  Taking on a superior shape for reflecting.

Aluminum foil for reflecting.

Aluminum foil applied to reflector.  Including small cardboard reflector.

Glass jar painted black.  A reused pickle jar is shown here.

Small turkey roasting bag for the greenhouse insulator.

Lentil soup ingredients.

Jar with ingredients is placed in the bag.  Bag is closed with a tie.

Safety precaution.  While cooking the lid must not be tightened.  But must be on loosely.  This will prevent excessive pressure from build up within the jar.

Greenhouse oven in reflector.

Cloudless day.

Start time.

Once every hour reorient the reflector to redirect maximum amount of sunlight at the greenhouse oven.  Move reflector and oven when obstructions cast shadows on reflector.

End time.

Dinner's ready.

Turkey bag will need to be allowed to dry before storage.  Given a little care, the bag can be used many times.
